A couple of weeks ago I wrote about clean fleece with rain water, Since then I have rinsed the fleece to get out the remainder of the dirt and algae which had formed on the fleece. But as I started to rinse the fleece the water seemed no cleaner or less cloudy than when I had washed previous fleeces without soaking in rain water.
I don’t think that the rain water cleaned the fleece at all and definitely did not break down the lanolin, as I had read about.
If you are going to clean fleece yourself at home I still think that washing in buckets with warm water and detergent is still the best way, despite the fact this is very time consuming and often very heavy physical work.
I have since sent all my fleece to be washed and carded.
